Sisters Berniya and Riya Hamie are among the latest elite BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists, as the founding members of Astatine Trio. Here, they appear in their other virtuoso guise, performing irresistibly compelling superb piano and soulful cello as Hamie Duo.
They bring the two big romantic and dramatic Cello Sonatas by Chopin and Rachmaninov – music to really get your emotional teeth into – plus three other pieces, being kept secret until the day, which further showcase the siblings’ instrumental world and artistry. And yes, you’re wondering . . . it’s “Burn-eye-er and ‘Ree-er Hay-mee”.
The format is full concert performance, plus interviewing conversation and answering audience questions, and also the interactive features ‘Guess The Composer’ and ‘Give It A Title’. These elements always create a special intimate and interactive concert experience at this marvellous venue.
The previous International Interview Concert, with solo pianist Yi-Yang Chen in May, needed extra seating added to get everyone in, and many newcomers to this series were among the enthralled and delighted audience.
