Libellous Letters in Littlehampton – the truth behind Wicked Little Letters

A talk by West Sussex Record Office With the recent release of ‘Wicked Little Letters’ there has been a buzz across West Sussex. Wanting to learn more, Vicky Evans (Searchroom Archivist at the West Sussex Record Office) delved deeper into the true stories surrounding Rose Gooding and Edith Swan in order to write her blog Libellous Letters in Littlehampton. Following this, she realised that this alone was not enough to satisfy her curiosity and has now gone many steps further by adding that all-important Littlehampton context to Rose and Edith’s stories. Vicky will be taking a broader look into the social structures and attitudes of the time and how this could have impacted these women’s lives in the 1920s. Lastly, she will explore what happened to both women after all was said and done. Tickets £8 available from Littlehampton Library.
