MAGNUS VOLK AND HIS AMAZING RAILWAYS An illustrated talk by Ian Gledhill

Volk’s Electric Railway is a familiar sight in Brighton, running along the beach from near the Palace Pier towards the Marina, but the story of the man behind it is less well known.   Magnus Volk was a true pioneer of all things electrical, and he built not one but two electric railways in Brighton.  One – the short lived “Daddy Long Legs” - is long gone, but the original railway, opened in 1883, is still going strong and is now officially the oldest working electric railway in the world. This talk by Ian Gledhill tells the story of the railways and the man who built them.
