Mr Burton

Ferring Community Cinema's August film show is "Mr Burton".

 

It's a moving story of how Rich Jenkins became Richard Burton, the biggest star Wales has ever produced.

 

Starring Toby Jones, Lesley Manville and Harry Lawtey, Mr Burton tells the story of wild schoolboy Rich Jenkins, son of a boozy miner, and an English teacher, Philip Burton, who recognised his talent.

 

Rich dreamed of becoming an actor and Phillip recognised his potential, tutored him, and became his adoptive father. The impact the relationship had was enormous, with Richard Burton saying of Philip Burton, “I owe him everything”.

 

Tickets are £6 and available at the North Ferring Co-Op, the Premier Stores in South Ferring, and on the door on the night. Ticket price includes tea, coffee or a soft drink, and biscuits. Doors open at 6.30pm for a prompt 7pm start.
