In the 19th century, over a million immigrants arrived in London from all over the world and elsewhere in the British Isles. Some were escaping from persecution, but all hoped for a better life for themselves and their families. As historical researcher Dr Frances Hurd explains in this talk, some of those London newcomers achieved their aspirations, but others were not so fortunate.
