Ferring Community Cinema will be showing their next film, ‘The Holdovers’, on Friday 6th December.
New England, 1970, and Paul Giamatti plays the hapless, curmudgeonly, and very unpopular high school professor, Paul Hunman. After managing to irritate everyone, he is made to stay behind over the Christmas Holidays to supervise five children, ‘the holdovers’ who haven’t been able to leave for home.
All but one of the children is collected, so Paul is forced to get to know Angus Tully (Dominic Sessa), a good student whose bad behaviour regularly threatens him with expulsion, and the school’s head cook, Mary Lamb (Da’Vine Joy Randolph). These three very different marooned people form an unlikely Christmas family and share some comedic misadventures during their two snowy weeks together.
The Holdovers is a Christmas holiday film complete with an atmospheric dusting of snow and school-choir-sung carols, but at its core, it’s about finding family where you least expect it.
The film will be shown at Ferring Village Hall. Tickets are £6 and available at the North Ferring Co-Op, the Premier Stores in South Ferring, and on the door on the night. Ticket price includes mulled win, tea, coffee or a soft drink, and mince pies and biscuits. Doors open at 6.30pm for a prompt 7pm start.
Wishing you all a Merry Christmas from The Ferring Community Cinema Team.
