Meet Malaysia’s contribution to the world crop of exciting young piano virtuosi. Julian brings two other fascinating composer friends from history - Leopold Godowsky and Charles-Valentin Alkan.
Music includes Schubert’s great C Minor Sonata D958, selections from Godowsky’s pictorial ‘Java Suite’, Beethoven’s romantic and playful F# Sonata (For Thérèse), Chopin’s deep Ballade No 2, and Alkan’s fun-seeking ‘Aesop’s Feast’.
Set in a breathtaking space, no obstructed views, intimately In the Round, including Guest Interviewer, plus audience engagement features ‘Ask A Question’, ‘What’s The Story?’ and ’Mystery Music’.
- “Vigorous and meaty, scintillating and gripping, dynamically transportive. Chan had his audience gladly hanging onto the handrails for the ride”
- “[In the Java Suite] Chan’s verve and skill with tone shifted us beyond a mere keyboard impression to an orchestral wall tapestry. He made it easy for us to conjure our own multitudinous images for the titles”
- “Not only in listening pulse rate, he set the bar high in artistic contribution for the Festival’s 32 classical events”
