Experience several centuries of weather, from 7 metre high snowdrifts, cricket ball sized hail, blazing summers to violent tornadoes and devastating floods. Ian Currie, a Fellow of the Royal Meteorological Society, is a weatherman, writer, broadcaster and editor of Weather Eye magazine. His illustrated talk will make particular reference to SE England and will follow the Preservation Society’s AGM which begins at 7.15 pm. Entry is free for EPKPS members. Visitors £3, payable on entry (cash only).  All admissions subject to availability of seats on arrival.

Sussex Piers and Kursaals – A talk by Dr Kathryn Ferry

A talk on how Sussex piers developed following the introduction of the railways in the 19th century and find out why Worthing’s Dome Cinema has a dome!

Dr. Kathryn Ferry is a historian specialising in Architecture, Design and Seaside Culture. Her list of publications ranges from the history of beach huts, through Victorian homes and 1950s kitchens, to the official history of Butlin’s and the story of Britain’s largest Anglican convent at East Grinstead.

She is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, Media Officer for the National Piers Society and a committee member of the Plastics Historical Society.

A sustainable working flower farm, run by two young horticulturalists with a passion for the environment. Our mission is to spread the word about British-grown flowers and share our story with visitors. We grow a wide range of flowers across a 1 acre site, where fresh, chemical-free bunches are available. You can also enjoy refreshments with a beautiful view of the flower field. Wheelchair access over gentle slopes and wide grassy and bark paths alongside the flower farm growing beds. 
 
NB Occasionally Garden openings need to be cancelled. Always check on the NGS website beforehand. 
 
 
Thanks to the generosity of garden owners, volunteers and visitors The National Garden Scheme have donated over £77.8 million to nursing and health charities and in 2025 made an annual donation of over £3.8 million. The core beneficiaries include Carers Trust, Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie, Hospice UK, Parkinson’s UK and The Queen’s Institute of Community Nursing.
 
The National Garden Scheme doesn’t just open beautiful gardens for charity – they are passionate about the physical and mental health benefits of gardens too. They also support charities doing amazing work in gardens and health and grant bursaries to help community gardening projects.

The Art Society Arun Monthly Talk - The Legendary Lee Miller

Our talk this month is by Antony Penrose who is the son of The Legendary Lee Miller
From fashion model to photo journalist and World War II correspondent, Lee Miller's extraordinary career produced some of the most iconic images of the 20th century. 
The life of Lee Miller told with reference to those with whom she exchanged creative inspiration - Man Ray, Pablo Picasso and Roland Penrose. A definitive view by her son and biographer the presentation has been acclaimed for its ability to embrace many different levels of the the history of art and photography, social commentary and emotional connection with the subject * Contains some wartime images which may be disturbing *

Doors open 9.30am. Everyone welcome. Guests £7 on the door. Coffee & biscuits available.

A beautiful medium-sized cottage garden with something of interest all year-round. The garden has several mature trees creating a feeling of seclusion. The informal beds contain a mixture of shrubs, perennials, cottage garden plants and spring bulbs. There are little hidden areas to enjoy, a small fish pond and other water features. There is also a raised, pretty log cabin overlooking the garden.
